Thanks for reading my blog. Before winter break, I helped our school participate in the Hour of Code via code.org and it was a HUGE success! For those of you who don't know, the apps on your phones/tablets only work because someone, somewhere knows how to code! I believe that students need to learn to code early so they can be ready to enter the digital workforce later in life.
Our school had students in ALL grade levels (k-5) participating in the Hour of Code. Some students participated only in the Hour of Code lessons, and some of my students have gone on to complete the 20 hour courses! I have been so impressed by the creations that my 5th graders have come up with. I have been able to play games coded by 5th graders and marvel at art programmed by them as well.
I know that there are other sites that are great for introducing students to code, but I started with code.org and had a lot of success.
