Hi everyone,
Education is changing incredibly fast and the change really caught up to us at Warren Hills! I have been a tech mentor at the school for a couple of years, but I finally think that this will be the year where technology helps us change the way we learn. In the past, "computer time" has always been a special event saved for Fridays or the end of a research project. Beginning next week, all students in 3-5 grade will begin receiving Chromebooks! As a LPS Tech Mentor, I know that we need to do more at the building level to support teachers because our world is about to get rocked!
I have never been a fan of sitting through hours upon hours of people talking at me, spitting ideas faster than I can take notes and then provide absolutely NO time to practice or figure out the logistics of implementing a new idea.
**Enter the Warren Hills Tech Café!**
The Tech Café is going to be a place where teachers can come to discuss challenges, share frustrations, offer suggestions and hopefully leave with a couple ideas related to incorporating technology in a meaningful way.
I originally approached the other LPS Tech Mentor in my school and my administrator with this idea. I wanted to stress that teachers will need more than a bunch of suggestions thrown at them. They need legitimate support - and they'll need it frequently. I wanted to have a coffee shop setting where people come to talk and collaborate in a meaningful way. With some more brainstorming, the name: Warren Hills Tech Café came up and was set in stone. I'll be hosting Tech Cafés in my room almost every other Tuesday all year (assuming it goes well). I'll let you know what happens!
